Measuring for Frames & Mats:
When measuring canvas borne art for a frame, measure both length and width at the top, middle and bottom and use the largest dimension in each direction. Custom frames will be mitered to your stipulated dimensions plus a standard 1/8” allowance. For example, if the dimensions of a canvas are 36”x 24,” the frame dimensions will be 36 1/8”x 24 1/8” .
Please stipulate if you desire a larger or smaller allowance and the exact allowance you would like. All frames we build (those without finished corners) include a 1/8” allowance unless you specify otherwise. For those of you who like to join your own frames, most mouldings may be ordered chopped for a reduced price. Chopped frames are mitered to the specified dimensions (plus allowance) and shipped unjoined.
When measuring for custom matting, measure the length and width of your desired picture image and subtract 1/4″ from each dimension. Double your desired mat width and add this sum to both dimensions to obtain proper mat size. For example, a 24″x30″ print with a desired mat width of 3″ would have an overall mat size of 29 3/4″x35 3/4″. If you have a question or are unsure, please call or email us and one of our experts will gladly assist you.
