Hartford Fine Art will host a reception on October 5 with the artist. In addition Tom will doing a demonstration during the reception! A great opportunity to meet the artist and hear stories and techniques first hand.
Tom was born in 1953 in Bethesda, Maryland, but was raised on the coastal shores of Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut, where he currently resides in Noank, CT.
Tom began to cultivate art at an early age, captivated by his grandfather painting in his studio. As a self-taught artist, he has been inspired and influenced by many past and present artists such as David Leffel, Joseph Zbukvic, and Rembrandt van Rijn. His motivation is sparked by the temporary passage of light on common objects or places. Composition and design with emphasis on tonal balance and color harmony infuse his paintings.
Tom currently works as a Registered Nurse at a local heart and vascular lab. During the evening or on his days off, you might find him outside, capturing a local scene with his portable easel or in his studio, painting a landscape, seascape, figure or still life with watercolor or oil.
Aside from commissions, Tom has received many awards for his work. This includes the Marion Tetlow Award from the MOAF, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize awards from local venues and galleries. He is a member of the Mystic Museum of Art, Lyme art Association, a past member of the Artist Co-op of Westerly, R.I., and was juried into the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 International Marine Art Exhibition at the Mystic Seaport Gallery. With the prospect of retirement from nursing in the near future, Tom plans on becoming more active in the art world, including live demonstrations and watercolor lessons.
