The Art of Chinese Brush
The Gallery at Hartford Fine Art hosts a tranquil exhibition featuring a master of Chinese Brush Painting, artist Jean Brewer starting on Friday, August 12th. There will be an artist reception with light refreshments on Friday, August 19th from 6pm – 8pm. Works will be on view and available through Friday, September 9th, 2016.
The Art of Chinese Brush features more than 29 pieces by Brewer that are available for purchase including both original art and prints. In addition, the exhibition also includes pieces that have been framed using archival materials by Hartford Fine Art.
The daughter of a furniture and toy craftsman and granddaughter of a self-taught artist, Jean Brewer began to sketch and draw at a young age. Her art career began at the University of Vermont while she was living in Burlington. A move to California allowed Jean to continue her art studies with a concentration on drawing, watercolor and design. While working for a designer out West, Jean discovered Chinese brush painting, which then became her passion. She traveled to China where she studied with Dr. Ning Yeah, a distinguished artist whose paintings are known worldwide.
When she later relocated to Cape Cod, she enrolled in classes with Qingxiong Ma, at the South Shore Art Center. Jean’s work is in galleries in New England and many private collections throughout the United States. A recent relocation to Connecticut has brought her closer to her children and her artwork to Connecticut galleries. Jean Brewer’s work can be viewed online at https://jb-chinesebrush.com.
The Art of Chinese Brush is a collaboration of Hartford Fine Art and Jean Brewer and her children. The exhibition was conceived in order to celebrate the work and life of the artist.
